MONTCLAIR’S COOLEST SCHOOLS RECEIVE $20,000 CASH BACK FOR SHOPPING AT MONTCLAIR PLAZA:

In times of budget cuts, Montclair Plaza supports community schools

May 27, 2011 – (Montclair, CA) – Montclair Plaza distributes $20,000 to local schools on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 9:30 am. Teachers and students from local elementary and high schools will be presented their awards at the My School’s Cool Award Ceremony, which will take place in the Lower Level Sears Court of the shopping center.

My School’s Cool (MSC) is a program implemented by MONTCLAIR PLAZA to encourage the community to bring shopping receipts from purchases at the mall to the mall Management Office to receive points for each dollar spent. At the end of the school year, the participating schools receive their cash donation based on each school’s accumulated points. This program is a fun and easy way for the community to help schools earn extra dollars for their classroom and all participating schools following MSC Rules & Requirements will receive a percentage of the $20,000.

“During a tough fiscal time when education budgets are rapidly shrinking, communities and local businesses must be creative and supportive in providing for the needs of our local classrooms,” says Larry Martin, Senior General Manager for Montclair Plaza. “My School’s Cool is an easy way for the community to get involved with our schools to ensure a quality education for our children.”

Based on total accumulated points earned August, 2010 through May, 2011, each school will be rewarded with a cash donation. This year’s winners are:

• 1st Place Pepper Tree Elementary $6,500
• 2nd Place Valencia Elementary $4,000
• 3rd Place Our Lady of the Assumption $3,000
• 4th Place Pioneer Jr. High $2,000
• 5th Place Yorba Elementary $1,500
• 6th Place Magnolia Elementary $1,000
• 7th Place Alta Loma High School $ 900
• 8th Place Vista Grande Elementary $ 325
• 9th Place Cabrillo Elementary $ 275
• 10th Place Decker Elementary $ 275
• 11th Place Our Lady of the Lourdes $ 225

Pepper Tree Elementary, from the Upland School District earned the most points and will receive a check for $6,500. Based on their point totals, an additional $13,500 will be divided among the remaining ten schools. Principals from participating schools will be on hand to receive their winning school’s check.

Since the My School’s Cool program was such a huge success, Montclair Plaza would like to continue its community support through a school shopping rewards program which will return in fall 2012.
